Very soon, when I get my Adobe Photoshop or wadeva program, I can get to design my own skins.... hohoho!!! And maybe post it on blogskins where people can download from.... ***Smirks***
Updates on my life, completed a wet and muddy triathlon! Woots!
I might be starting on a temporary job soon, depending on whether I get a reply soon...
More job application, more resume sending!!! *sighz*
We are the army of workers in this capitalistic world, up to the beck and call of the captialists, and we have to compete among ourselves and enslave our souls to places called companies to sustain our livelihood....
Do you agree with me? Well, but at least I can't wait to earn my first stable income and give my folks a treat, as stark certain facts are in the world, so competitive and hectic, but this is how all of us live. We'll adapt. :)

My Today Thanksgiving
Just thought I would like to share my thoughts with you: my "today thanksgiving" which makes me appreciate each passing day I lived..
I thank God for the today He has given me, thank Him for the strength He provides me to tide through today.
Life may be hard, the future may look awful, but it is today I thank Him for, that I made it through.
Today, I may have been laughed at,
Today, I may have been overlooked,
Today, I may have made a mistake,
Today, my friends/ boss/ superior may have not given me recognition,
BUT, I thank God that today, He still has loved, and accepted me. Today, He has loved my contrite heart.
Because my God loves me, today yesterday and tomorrow, His love makes me overcome all of my troubles.
Pleasant or horrible, I am so glad that I made it through today and today ends well, because no matter what, my today ends with gratitude and satisfaction, just because the Lord satisfies. :) :)
For those who had a bad day, it doesn't hurt to lift up your spirits to see the brighter side of things. :)

Trials and Tribulations of Triathlon...
Triathlon is next week... Up till date I would say I don't regret my decision for taking it up... Initially I was so fearful of it... I thought I would just pass out or cry during the race itself.
But its amazing how much the body can take. Its amazing how my body is changing too... I feel fitter, healthier and not so much of a blob of lard.
Training can be tough... sometimes during the exercise I pant and push myself to go on, wondering if I could actually take the whole 3 segments of the race at one go. But, I went for the training clinic last week, and I could that I could at least drag myself to complete all the segments without the need to cry or be hopeless.... and it gives me the confidence to go more than I actually can...
It really becomes mind over body, at some point in time its all in the mind... strange... but there are times when I teared over the things I had to go through despite all my schedule... Draggin myself to run or go for a long day for training felt absolutely dreadful, and there was also a time when I cycled alone to kallang, met with some scary foreign workers, fell off my bike and got some painful bruises on my butt and shin. These were the times I really felt like crying.... Not to forget how I first fell off the racing bike and scrapped my knee badly.... and times when I jogged to unfamiliar places which felt really creepy....
But all that is over, and I sort of got used to it, and know where to avoid now... ultimately all these paid off... I see a stronger me. At my strongest point in time, and healthiest. My knees have not been giving me much of a problem, thankfully, and I feel more seasoned in running swimming and cycling now...
I'm glad triathlon has pushed me to my limits... and allowed me to train more than I ever thought my body could take. I really hope I can keep up such a lifestyle as often as possible.. :) Look forward to next sat!!! Come support me ppl!

Catching up with the Odac-ians week...
I spent the weekend catching up with some old friends. It was so fun! I had a night cycling trip with the oldies... now the new odac ppl I dun even know any of them.... Yep, Mei Mei Yu invited me for this wonderful night cycling... thanks Mei Yu!
Cycled from East Coast to Lau Pa Sat to eat dim sum and chicken feet, and a few oldies met us there for supper. Hmmm Lau Pa Sat is the place to catch up with the good old times eh? Nostalgic... haha... my gosh I feel old by saying this...
From Lau Pa Sat we cycled to Vivo City. It was a very good cycle as the road was empty and we were along the coastline, so cool breeze. We stopped by the wooden sidewalks at Vivo City and rested for about an hour, taking pictures, comparing bikes and ogling at each others' biking gears, helmets, trying to do 360 degree turns etc...
Then we set off to Lavender via China Town, City Hall and Bugis. They ate the Pigs organ soup there. I got a thing about eating pork in the wee hours in the morning, think I'm a paranoid weirdo sometimes.. haha
From there we set off back to East Coast. By the time we reached it was about 4am. As the rest cycled home with their bikes, Me and Mei Yu were stuck at East Coast cos we needed to return out rented "lau pok" bikes. Sia la.. cycle until I wanna die. Gears don't work very well... Paddle like mad.
So we hung out at the 24/7 Macdonalds till dawn talking and catching up, though both of us by that time were already blabbering and not sure of what are we sputtering. haha...
And then I had a nice catch up time with Ah Ling today.... one of the rare days that she had time to catch up with friends, other days she is at the battlefield at the work place... we had lunch den headed to CityHall's Campus Corner to look for sandals.... hoho... thanks to her I bought a $XX pair of sandals... Chaco sandals... well can slowly guess the price... Cos her feet was bigger, she had to get the adults size (I got the kids one) for $XXX. hoho.... Keep guessing....

Its nice catching up with old frens, finding out what are they doing.... so nice....

Transformers, teeth and adults....
I watched Transformers on Wednesday night with the usual gang. This show is a must watch, even though I was not a fan of Transformers. The movie effects are spectacular... and imagine this... in the fight scene, the cars and jets speed and swerve to mid-air, and in a split second they transform to their original forms and land with a bam. Whoa... so coool.... Then there is this mechanic sound (more like a deep growl) from the creaking of the gears and the joints of the machines. It feels so mechanic, so cool. What makes this movie the most attractive is even though the Transformers appear to be cold, hard machines, they actually have feelings. That makes the bond or a relationship between humans and machines, it makes us grow fond of machines. I think I can relate this to my present life, I would have a deeper affection for my car now...
Hmm... you never know maybe there is this bonding I have with my Toyota when I drive it. Yea I think so... like when you get used to driving a car grow to like the car. But I wouldn't say I'm there yet... I still am a accident hazard at times.. I think my car hates me for causing so much trauma on the breaks and the gears...haha
But, the downside of watching Transformers on Wednesday was that I pulled out my wisdom tooth earlier in the afternoon. So it was giving me a slight headache and some disorientation. The tooth extracting experience was quite a tense one. Haahaa... Injecting anesthetic into my gums hurt, but it made half my mouth numb for at least 6 hours after that... and so when the tooth was extracted, all I could hear and feel was the tooth being jabbed, disjointed and yanked out of my gums. No pain, but I could feel the force... not the star wars force k? I meant the pulling. Its so weird to hear the root of the tooth snapping and the cartilage breaking within your gums but not to feel any pain.... I was hilariously horrified.
Finally made the transition to attend adults cell group last night. I wasn't really used to it, and I shut my mouth most of the time, for fear of sounding childish or immature in the presence of the older ones.... Like they talk about current affairs and those banking stuff and codes, not that I don't understand them (I'm so glad I actually know what are they saying) but usually I don't have an opinion on matters like this. And its so weird to have 30 somethings to 40 something people to be my peers, partly the reason I was so closed up is because of this asian notion of respect for people who are my senior.... but oh well, it was a beautiful house I went to yesterday, and the people were very welcoming, thats enough. I'll fit in rather soon I hope...

Back from a weekend cruise
I'm back from my cruise..... over the weekend. It was the most sit-around-and-do-nothing holiday ever, but I think one of the most reflective and thinking trips. I was pretty much alone most of the time, walking around the decks or working out like mad in the gym. In this trip, I was the only young one. The rest were all old foggies between 50-60 years old, cooping themselves 24/7 in the mahjong room, coming out only to eat and watch the "Chu Mi Mi" show on the last night. Mahjong is in the bloodline of my family, but I think it doesn't manifest in me.

My cabin, with window view!!! Where I spend part of my time stoning and reflecting..
So, what was I doing for 2 and 1/2 days on my own? I kept myself in the library reading magazines. From fashion to political magazines. I stared out at the ocean from the window of my cabin for about 1 hour, thinking about life. I thought about the societal organisation of the ship, the notion of fun and entertainment to various people, about the facade life in a metropolitan set-up. I watched a very heartwrenching and reflective show, Blood Diamond. Woah, all the cast, their acting skills, are superb. It's based on a true story, and the show left a lot of thoughts inside me as well. I think I shall have a separate entry for that.

The beautiful library, I can spend the whole day there...
Back to the ship... call me cynical or pessimistic, but when people are enjoying themselves onboard that floating hotel, I also see the dark side of things, and feel sad about it. The ship really offers everything, from simple childish fun to... underground services. I was strolling around the cabin corridors and I saw a skimpliy clad long haired lady stomping out of a cabin. And the next thing she barged into the crew-only entrance and her high heels clonked heavily down the metal stairs. Lets see... cabins are for guests... and guests are not allowed into crew restricted areas... so, she must be a crew. Hmm... and why did she barge out of the cabin angrily??
It also makes me think of consummerist culture, onboard a luxury liner, everything is extravagant. The amount of food served is triple the amount needed to feed guests, needless to say, when we see abundance of food, our instincts tell us to eat our fill, and maximize our fill to the fullest. I don't understand, how can one enjoy over eating? Its not a good feeling afterall. But oh well, I used over eat too, I dig in comfort food, and it took me great discipline to cut it off.
Meanwhile on the otherside of the world, people are starving. Really disproportionate...
Consummerist culture also made me think of the artificiality of everything onboard the ship. In fact, I already felt this way as a child onboard the cruise. On one hand, the decor for the guests are so beautiful, but on the other hand, when you take a peek into the crew restricted area, everything is spartan and white. While we enjoy all the facilities and get treated like royalty, the crew sometimes have to put up a fake smile to accomodate to our sometimes outrageous ugly behaviour. Sometimes I wonder, if their smiles and greetings really come from their hearts, or its just plain customer service. I mean I don't really blame them for it, I served as a sales girl before and I know how ugly can customers get. Onboard the liner, everthing is a stage, we go there to be entertained and to be taken away into a fantasy world, like disney land, with aesthetic setup and fancily dressed staff. Everything is a setup!!! I'm living in such a fake world!!!
I took a walk around the casino in the ship. Before the casino opened its doors, people queued up at least for half an hour just to wait for the opening of the casino. I don't understand why were they so anxious, when the casino is going to be opened 24 hours everyday from the start of the trip.... the casino was packed and smoky, people sat around the jackpots, and the card playing tables... which leads me to a thought: the argument for the set up of the IR is that only a very small portion of the resorts will be allocated for casino, so there will not be such a big issue in it. Well, the casino in the ship does not exactly take up a huge space, but yet that is the highlight of ship and people actually queue for such a long time to get in. Maybe space is not the concern, but more of the allure of the kerching...
Oh yea... lastly, I made use of the good gym in the cruise, to train up, and to shed the calories from all the buffets. I went for a fat measurement test, and the instructor said I had to lose at least 8kg. 8 kg.... 8kg.... thats... almost a rice sackful? 8 kg... that means working out for 30 minutes everyday and saying bye to chocolates and cakes. 8kg.... 8kg..... 8kg.... 8kg.... I clearly needed someone to convince me that I am fat rather than trying to deceive myself I'm not..... 8kg... 8kg.... 8kg....
Hmm so much thoughts from just a 2 day trip. How come? Well, I really just sat down and reflected... it took myself away from all the petty concerns in my life and thought more about the big picture in reality, especially when I'm in the middle of the ocean which connects all round the world....
Nevertheless.... pictures...

Social Conscience embedded in leisure and entertainment?
Recently the propagation for social conscience in leisure and entertainment has been stepped up locally. We see social conscience in our coffee; if you don't know, Starbucks actually buys their coffee beans directly from poor coffee farmers, thus not short-changing them of their profits earned.
Then there is the reduce the plastic bags campaign going on in Singapore, to the dismay of many Singaporeans. And the motorola red movement, which funds the AIDs campaign, I think. Body Shop is also another social conscience movement, against animal testing, supporting community trade etc etc.
All these implementations are creating awareness about the world but in subtle ways. And I think we do need to be more considerate about the things going on in the world, inequality, environmental damage, exploitation etc. Personally, I only find these issues confined to the news broadcast and newspapers. Which I confess I don't really read nor watch. When I pick the papers, I read the Life! section, which is on entertainment, TV guide and comics. When I pick the remote control for the TV, I watch MTV, starworld, anything but BBC or CNN or CNA.
It is only when I started studying more about sociological and political movements in Sociology, I understood better of the reality I have been running away/ deluding myself from by entrenching myself in my own comfort bubble, shop, watch tv, trying to keep up the latest bod and look etc.
Maybe it is a form of escapism, cos in the media and entertainment world, everything is fine and perfect. You see more than perfect models, they live in the best houses and enjoy the best entertainment, they have the best relationships and the best families. And we forget that in this world, a huge portion of peoples's lives are far from perfect. In fact it is not even livable. But we don't want to let our conscience get the better of us so we cut off from knowing about this and further delude ourselves into the "perfect" lives as emulated from the media. At least, that's what I would do to elavate my conscience for the destitute.
But, as such social conscience creeps into the media, with celebrity ambassadors sharing on TV about their community work, on war and politics, it brought me back to reality. We either become politically active by understanding the inequalities of the world, human rights, and be concerned of political movements in our own country or other countries, or we become apolitical and not be bothered about all these issues which ultimately will implicate us, and just carry on aimlessly playing our computer games, watching our soppy drama serials.
I feel that we need more social conscience embedded into our lifestyle and commodities, so that whilst we indulge in our own form of entertainment- as fortunate as we are to be able to enjoy such wealthy lifestyles- these little tags and pieces of information attached to the coffee we drink, the products we buy, the music we hear, will remind us to be socially considerate and not be too individualistic. Not to just care for ourselves but also give a thought to those we might indirectly exploit when we purchase a piece of commodity, which might come from factories made up of exploited women or children.
But I'm glad that Singapore is on its way to allowing more companies and products with a brand of social conscience. Even better still, maybe one day our own local companies will come up with a social conscience branding. Man, even Linkin Park has put in some form of social conscience into their new album, What I've Done. The new mtv in some ways invoke our guilty conscience... Cool...

Cooking frenzy
I spent the weekend making one pastry after another.
On Saturday, Aiping came over to help me with making some snacks for my church's Fathers Day Tea reception. We made Kueh Salat and egg tarts. Was darn lot of work, but worth it Thanks I-think-pink!!! :)

The church aunties were pleased :)
On Sunday, Fathers' Day, I made a card for my Dad and a pumpkin cake. Making cards are a tradition in my house. My parents keep the cards I made since I was 8 or 9 years old. Every birthday and Father or Mothers' Day. They rather I make a card than I buy stuff or cards for them. Which is good. Making cards are much, much cheaper. (And I get to reuse materials at home for the cards *teeheehee*)
I made a ridiculous kindergarten looking card for my dad. I dunno, somehow I think he resembles a huge friendly teddy bear. With droopy small eyes. Bahaha. So, that explains the teddy bear....

Once I made a very ridiculous card for my mom. That time we just had a scanner, so I scanned her face and my dad's face separately. I attached her face to a supermodel's body walking on a runway, holding a huge diamond ring (many carats),but, with the diamond ring replaced by my Dad's face. It was hilarious.
Anyways, back to the pumpkin cake. I spread cream cheese frosting over it to make it look like a pumpkin. YESH its supposed to look like a pumpkin!!! THe pocky sticks are meant to be the stalk. Use your imaginations people....

Slipped into twilight zone....
I hate napping in the hot afternoons, I always end up slippping in and out sub-conciously.
I was so tired today I decided to take a nap. Slept for about an hour. Then I decided to wake up. But I realised my body couldn't move. My eyes could barely open. So, keeping my eyes closed, I rised up and sat at my study table beside my bed. But I was soo sleepy, couldn't keep myself on the chair. I fell off...
When I opened my eyes, damn! I'm still on my bed.. I actually dreamt that I woke up but not really... And this repeated for a few times..
I got worried.. what if I can't wake up? I wanted to call out to my Dad, who was in the same room using the PC... I can't even move! Eyes still could barely open. I started to panick.... Mustered all my energy to move my mouth to shout, but my cheek muscles merely shivered....
Oh no... panicked even more... I started breathing faster... I can't believe a young healthy person like me who can easily jump and run now cannot even move an inch....
Concentrated... told myself I WANT to wake up... My eyes opened up, and immediately I chanced on that to lurge my body and sprang out of bed. Ok finally this time its for real. Still feeling very very drowsy, I quickly made my way to the toilet to wash my face. As the droplets on my face dried up, I felt more awake and was back to normal again...
I was quite freaked out by this incident... its not the first time happening and I don't really feel good after waking up, in fact I feel more drained... It started to make me think about sleeping... its like switching off from reality to enter into a gibberish world, a world that doesn't make sense.
Eeee... I'm never gonna take afternoon naps, or at least with the air-con on....

OBS @ Pulau Ubin
Last saturday morning:
5am
Woke up to fry Ramly burger patties, cut lettuce and prepared for the Ubin trip. Showered, packed remaining stuff for the outing.
7am:
Rushed out of house to meet Nicole and the rest at Hougang Central
8.15am:
After a long wait as one of Nicole's friend is late, we crammed into her family car and whisked off to Punggol Jetty
8.35am:
We waited for boat to Ubin OBS! Yea!!!

9am:
Reached Ubin and walked to Nicole's sister's office (she's an instructor at OBS so she allowed us to enter the territory for a day of fun-filled activities. From the corridor, we could see the high-element obstacle ship design. There were people at the top doing the sails. They looked like they were hanging themselves to dry. Half an hour later, they were still "hanging" there... Wondered if their bellies hurt from all that hanging... hohoho....

10am:
Started climbing on the external wall. Man, the tiles were sizzling!!! Climbing out in the sun is so different from climbing indoors. I could get tired just by standing there... and the heat drains the strength away... We first attempted the side walls, which were sloping inwards, means its easier to climb. Then we attempted the higher, cliff-like one. I nearly reached the top, but slipped just 2 metres away from the top. Couldn't climb back again, cos the rope jutting out pulled me away from the wall. In the end, ALL of us ended up trying to swing and swing and swing back and forth to reach the wall.... TIRING...

12pm?:
Finally could use the internal wall. This time, we tackled the high elements. Use more arms, to grab and pull myself up. So tiring, but very fun and scary. I have a problem with heights. After years of rock-climbing, I sort of overcame my fear of heights. But this time, the entire structure was shaking!!! Shaking in mid-air! And at certain parts my legs trembled (no more strength) and the stupid thing trembled too, with all the chains clanking like bells.... Wah piang eh... plus I was so tired and I was so sweaty my arms slipped from the metallic bars... But reaching at the top was a good feeling, all the bruises are coming out now...

2.30pm:
Finally we are done with all the playground stuff and we headed back to the office for our packed lunch. Lunch was fabulous! Nicole made her devilish devil's eggs and mushroom onigiri, I made Ramly burgers, and her fren Angie brought delicious grilled chicken wings and fried sausages. Nothing beats ice-cold syrup drink after a hot, hot, hot day's climb.... Ooooh..
3.30pm:
Changed for kayaking. We used the open kayaks whoch were more fun as they are lighter and easier to hop in and out. Along the way we saw many jelly fishes, I saw one blue one... so beautiful, like UV rays.... then there were the pink and white ones.... used my paddle to play with them hahahaha!!! I was jabbing, prodding and poking them with my paddles... poor jellies... traumatized. Muahahhaha Even tried lifting them out of the water with my paddles... :P
Spent a whole day using my arms... gosh they are going to grow as thick as my legs -_-'''
4.20pm:
Reached the shore, started washing up
5pm:
Rushed out of the office and ran to the jetty to hop on the boat back. We had more food, sweet cold chinese pears and slimy jelly drinks, a packet attached with a straw to suck the goo out of the packet... niccceee slurp slurp...
5.15:
Took a bus out to Punggol MRT and headed back home....zzzzzZZZZZ
Seriously dehydrated.....
