These days, its hard to differentiate what is exactly reality and what is exactly not reality. Shopping in a Mall, going on a holiday, owning a beautiful home- your ideal decor of space, is it really reality? You are so absorbed in all the senses around you, touch, feel, sight, sounds, tastes, that you are engulfed in the whole experience, you never want it to end.. it seems impossible that these perfect settings can be wrecked. You are so engulfed in the experience, your life means all these things.. you put your heart and soul into designing and owning your dream home, you work so hard and spend it off on buying items that seem so necessary to yourlifestyle, like the latest gadgets, the accessories that you wear etc etc... you cling on to all these things.
Yet, come the tsunami, come Katrina, wipe off all that is tangible, what are you left? You take pride in your home- it is flattened, you live your life shopping in a mall- it is gone, you take pride in your work- but your workplace cease to function in such situations, what are you left with to find meaning in life, when nature, the reality of the world, the natural disasters, the world that is not created by society, back to the basics, just ground, air, water, plants and animals(Think they already are largely non-existent), stripped down to your naked self, what do you hold in life? What if society ceases to function one day? Remove your current role in society, remove your status, in the end everyone will seem the same. All that you value in life, possession, wealth, looks, does it matter anymore? Think again...
This seems far-fetched doesn't it? Its hard to imagine life without electricity, light, without buildings, without a structure, but yet again, it is as real as it can get. It takes a bomb, a natural disaster to collapse society just within a day. Why can't it happen? I ask again, what is your aim/ meaning in life? To earn your first million? To get famous and rich? To own your ideal sports car? To earn money in all ways and means to indulge in a luxurious life before you die? Think again. You never know on the day when all these might just collapse in front of you. What else would you hold on to when these happens?
