Fowlic Attack!!!!! Missile Pigeon Launched....

Mood Today: Cranky ( Too much adrenaline from rock-climbing)

What a day today!!! Bad mood.. bad mood... What are the chances of this happening on a place without trees, just open skies?? Close to none!!! Those ASSHOLES!!!!!. It was a bad day enough, have not climbed for such a looong time and my skills were rusty to the extent of disapppointment.
After a hard day at Climb Asia, the rock climbing place, fingers sore and feet aching.. my friends and I were walking along the row of shophouses to some kopitiam to chill out, and I was really feeling sore and raw after gripping the sandpaper-like rock tiles for hours....
AND as I was walking along the row of shophouses, I felt some fluid-like thing drop on my head, down to my shirt, and flowing down from my thighs to my calves. What was that? I saw a greenish fluid on my shirt. I looked up and above me I saw the butt of a FAT pigeon perched on a lamp post. ARGHHH!!!! BIRD SHIT!!!! Ewww... I stood there for a moment shocked.. and started ranting. Fortunately, there was no residue on my head, but the watery substance flowed down to my forehead....yucks!!! Then after that my friends and I were debating did the pigeon "lau-sai" (diahoerra) or it was a combination of shit and pee... Thanks for the greenish stain on my favourite white shirt YOU MORONIC FOWL!!!! I looked up and cursed the pigeon again and thought I saw its asshole smiling at me... (hallucination)
Well basically I just stood there and cursed the pigeon for a minute much to the amusment of my friends and an uncle sitting nearby selling durians.. Curse that pigeon! Curse it to have constipation to the extent it explodes with its own excrete! BOOM! MUHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHA!! DAMN YOU PIGEONS!! DAMN YOU!!!
Hmmm.. maybe I should go buy 4D, see whether can strike or not.. haha.. ooh.. but I'm not supposed to gamble hor? haha oops..

A Malay Wedding...

I dragged myself to attend my colleague, Mariana's wedding today. Felt guilty that I missed service ( could not get up in time for the 8.00 service, had a bbq till late last night) So sleepily I dragged myself up from bed at around 8 am and started dressing up. I didn't know what to wear, formal or casual?I had planned to wear a blouse with a skirt, sort of smart casual, but sadly it was a little tight. So I settled for a dress, with a cardigan over it. Put on a little makeup, accessories and wore a pair of bad stilettos (developed bad blisters after that) and off I left the house.
Mariana's wedding, like other malay weddings was held in a void deck. Upon reaching, my fellow student associates and I sat down at one of the long tables and went to get lunch buffet style. Lunch was a range of yummilcious spicy malay food, bryani, rendang, spicy veggies, kuehs, curry puffs.. etc ) The void deck was prettily decorated. They had blue sashes drapped at the ceiling with yellow flowers placed where the sash was scrunged up. There were long rows of tables aligned to the centre aisle where a red carpet lay leading to a mini platform. On the platform was 2 elaborate looking chairs meant for the bride and groom to sit on and a beautiful backdrop for the platform. ( I think its for taking pictures with the bride and groom)
After having our fill and waiting for the bride and groom to appear, we saw the bride first sitting on one of the chairs on the platform. Mariana was sooo beautiful! Her costume was very, very, elaborate. She wore a golden kebaya and her hair was skilfully done up, with 3 hairpins studded with crystals at the side of her bun. Her bun was styled up so beautifully, with waves and curls, and of course, held together with lotsa hairspray and black pins. Her kebaya had lots of handsewn beads and embroidery all of golden and glamour. Can't really describe the kebaya cos it was so elaborate that I missed out the details. Its different looking at a malay bride to me because of their different styles of makeup and costume compared to chinese weddings. Somehow it dawned upon me that they are so much more deeply rooted in their heritage; Nothing she wore was influenced much by western culture, apart from the hairstyle she has, but even then, the hairpins were very 'malay" . Anyway, I was wondering why was she sitting at the chair without her groom. Usually for chinese and western weddings, bride and groom will enter the venue with a bang, but she was quietly sitting there... So after waiting for 15 minutes or so, we heard loud claps of malay drums from far... The groom is coming!!! So the groom, leading the whole procession strolled in with grandeur. Behind him was his family members, and behind them were the 10-12 strong malay drummers, arousing everyone's excitement and attention with the beat of the drums. Upon entering the void deck, he was stopped by male members of Mariana's family. Apparently they had to give a bride price and push their way through the barrier created. And Mariana's mom sat on the platform beside her, covering her face with a fluffy purple fan. That scene of her face being covered by a fan looked so... traditional.. like some scene in a play. I was enjoying every moment of the commotion. So after breaking through the barrier, the groom was seated on a chair in the middle of the aisle. They got a guy to perform silat ( malay martial arts) in front of the groom. Its like a ceremonial thing, but from what I interpret, his actions looked like they were warding off evil, and sort of transferring his powers to the groom. The groom also wore golden silk and lots of accessories. He had a kris with him, I think its symbolic, kris for the malays had representation of power and .. not too sure what. So, after all the performance comes the moment everyone was waiting for.. Mariana's mother to lift the purple fan up to expose Mariana's face and the groom gives a small bunch of flowers to the bride. They finally sit together on the platform and Mariana's mother took the bunch of flowers that Mariana received and.... used it to bless them??? I dunno.. she was holding it and sort of waved it around like some priest.. hmm not too sure what that was... And then they sat there while the malay drummers continued their claps and songs of cheers. ( I ony know one word from the entire cheer they sang: selamat .......) And that was the entire procession.Everyone resumed eating after that. Throughout the day, I saw the malays going about greeting people in their own ways: kissing of hands and placing their hands on their hearts.. so... cultural!
Hmm.. but during the procession I admired the malay culture, so strong and they are so proud of it. Who wears cheongsams to chinese weddings? In the first place, I don't think cheongsams are even my original heritage's costume. I'm teochew, by the way... But being a singaporean chinese, and a kantang(westernified) I realise there are not much accessories and traditions to follow during events. Everything is so.. modern. Apart from the bride who wears a cheongsam only for the tea ceremony, everyone else wears modern clothes. And because of that, some people underdress for the occasion. Jeans?!?! T-shirts! And for the men, who have lesser choices, they wear what they wear to work. -_-"'But who can blame them? Want them to wear a silky cheena blouse with chinese collar and chinese buttons- those that can be found in tourist shops along chinatown, they will say you are "siao!" Its like a laughing stock. And if girls wear cheongsams, those cheaper quality ones will make them look like waitresses. And they get laughed at. Sigh... I think I'm facing a culture identity crisis here...
Although my family do have our own traditions to follow eg: lunar new year,.. and thats about it.. *gasp* Its getting very diluted. VERY diluted. Even during New Year celebrations, we don't enjoy it! People come late, leave early, and some of us don't even wear new clothes anymore.. and yes.. more jeans and t-shirt seen during this occasion. The mood isn't there anymore... :( I think Christmas holds more meaning to me than New Year..
BUT.. I believe there is hope. The local arts scene is opening up. And with that, I expect cultural revival. As long as people do not belittle our own heritage costumes I believe one day we may see many chinese wearing cheongsams. Just like if everyone pokes fun of the kebaya, who will dare to wear it? So I think we also have to play a part to respect and follow traditons.
All these words are written from a "jiak kantang" who got c5 in her chinese language for AO levels. It shows that there is hope. :)

Why Korean Dramas are so popular among asian women...

Move over J-pop, these days are the lovey-dovey Korean drama serials that occupy the google box by storm. From local channels to SCVs, to video cds, those ladies: from late teens to aunties enjoy them. This is the first time I ever saw my mom get so hooked up to watching serial dramas. Winter Sonata, Full House, All In.. wateva u can think of... Recently its "da Chang Jin" That ancient cooking + love plot drama. After watching that drama my mom wanted so badly to dine at a Korean restaurant, which we did.. but the food... yeee.
So.. what is it exactly that entices so many ladies to watch these shows?

Here is what I think... after watching and laughing at soppy plots these dramas have.. why women like these surreal, crappy, lovey-dovey plots:
  1. the guys in the story always have a soft side
  2. guys weep like sissies in the show, for nitty gritty things like "cannot get the one I love".. *rolls eyes*
  3. there will always, if not, most of the time, have 2 guys to like 1 girl. And not really the other way round. Ha.
  4. The guys... the guys in the show.. often can like a girl for a very, very long time.. say, since childhood? And they have eyes on only ONE girl....Tell me in reality.. who doesn't have multiple crushes?
  5. Ahh.. this is the interesting part.. haha... there will always be a pathetic guy who buys a bouquet of roses, wants to give it to his admirer, but, always at the last min, he sees her wif another man, behaving so intimately, and therefore he : 1)Throws flowers away in the bin. 2) Slams flowers onto the ground 3)) gets rid of flowers and drives his posh car away in a very depressed manner.
  6. Not to forget... the character in the shows are always very rich, or related to rich and wealthy people. Full of fancy houses, posh cars, and superb dress sense. What a fantasy...
  7. Who can forget the lovely, romantic scenery that accompanies the dreamy storyline?
  8. Not too explicit scenes of kissing and all that.. Less is good, and when they really kiss, even if its just a peck, the effect is so much more satisfying than seeing people get senselessly hot and passionate all the time.
  9. Hmm... and the guys in the drama, all look clean, well groomed, well mannered and treats the one they love ever-so-sweetly. Who wouldn't want a guy like that??? Only in our dreamsss...

But, in reality... I don't really think there are so many of this kinda SNAG(sensitive new age guy) around, especially in more conservative countries, where the family system are still patriachal.. That kind, the wife stays at home, husband comes back and she waits on him... etc etc... so maybe shows like that give them an avenue to escape from reality, or maybe its just every girl's dream to have such a life, and such a dream guy...

Hmm.. but for me... I CRINGE at korean dramas. Too mushy and too many draggy plots ( they DO love each other, but for some dumb reasons they avoid each other and weep in agony. -_-''') But one thing I do like about it is their props and dress sense. Haa. Oh, and korean comedies are always welcome. Real funny.

A day as a Guinea Pig

I look like a:

a) Suicide bomber
b) Cancer patient
c) Heart disease patient
d) Freako

Sigh.. Im wired up on an experiment today, for 24 hours. I'm a research participant for NUS's cardiovascular psychology lab research thingy... ( not too sure exactly what it is) There are even more wires beneath my shirt, 2 electrodes on my tummy, a band around my neck, another below my chest area and one more electrode on the side of my neck. And in the pouch are the machines taking my heart rate and blood pressure.. oh and the blue cuff on my arm is for taking blood pressure. And every 1/2 hr I have to fill up a questionaire on a PDA in the pouch. It gets annoying after some time....
And, I was asking for it. I walked around wearing like what I wore in the picture. So, obviously, I got weird, weird stares... Hmm h0w do I describe the kind of stares??? First, shock. They got a lost look while staring at me. Then, their face changed into sympathy.. especially the aunties.. hhaha They must be thinking.. poor girl.. HAHA
Den while I was outside the public toilet recording my PDA for the questionaire, a little girl walking past stopped in her tracks, froze and stared at me.. *annoyed* Her maid literally used her hands to turn the girl's head to the front and pulled her to continue walking.. ahhh.. so weird.. =Looks like tomorrow when I return the equippment I have to cover myself up better.. but I din want to sweat la.. so thats why I wore something cooling today...
But,,, for this I get paid.. hahaha abt $100++ for 3 sessions. But the bad thing is I can;t shower, only wet wipe.. hahaa its fun to me.,. I like to try new stuff... :)

Cakes and emotions... :(

I'm feeling somewhat disappointed today; my pandan cake failed. I could not reach the soft, spongy standard. It was wet and somewhat mushy. And tasteless. Not much flavour. Ahh... what a waste of eggs. 6 eggs. But somehow, I am determined to do more! I will reach that soft, fragrant spongy consistency one day. Practice!
Today, I was at church practicing for my skit item for the orientation tea on Thursday and Saturday. We are doing a dance of God's creation of earth and mankind. Not to forget during fellowship, we sang a song for our dear Angie, as a encouragement for her. She is going to be admitted to KK hospital this coming thursday to undergo an op to remove a 6 cm blood cyst in her ovaries. She is definitely going through severe pain now, but she is the most optimistic person I ever met. She still goes about doing her stuff chirpily and is as energetic as ever. She is an inspiration to me, despite her condition, she never fails to give thanks and places all her love and trust onto God. Sometimes we always say, "my trust and faith in Him is very deep", but when we are put to the test, not everyone manages to stay by their word. Well, I think Angie is truly God's child and disciple. I truly admire her... Back to the skit I mentioned. We are doing an abstract dance. Wearing black and white, we represent the elements of the universe, light, dark, later on atmosphere, water, plants animals, and finally, man. My parts for the dance are light (will be wearing white), atmosphere(clouds) and the last part, behind a screen as a shadow, I will be Eve. I'm quite concerned about that actually, cos the scene on Adam and Eve is shadow playing, meaning they will only see silhoulettes of me and the guy playing Adam. First concern: I'm fat!!! instead of seeing a slender woman, they will see a stunted hulk'ess'. (Female version of the Hulk) And, I have short hair, behind the shadow, I might look like a man. Oh well, but since they volunteered me to do it, I'm honoured to represent our fellow female ancestor Eve.
I feel quite excited to do this dance, for I have never played a part in dancing during my secondary school and Jc days, even thought I wanted to sometimes. Hope everything will turn out well; now that we are all adults I think most of us expect higher standards out of a performance. Evenmore I never tried abstract dance, so I have to be more expressive while performing I think...
But somehow I believe this performance will turn out well, because we are doing it for a purpose, that is to allow people to come to know God in a creative way, and I believe God will see to it that everything goes on smoothly. Wah.. And the music for the scenes are so... emotional.. like those of the Lord of the Rings... very soulful.. in fact after listening to it last night during practice, it totally changed my mood to somewhat sombre and silent.

Gunning Down Romance

Love and other moments are just chemical reactions in your brain
And feelings of aggression are the absence of the love drug in your veins
In your veins
Love come quickly
Because I feel my self-esteem is caving in
Its on the brink
Love come quickly
Because I don't think I can keep this monster in
Its in my skin

Love and other socially acceptable emotions are morphine
They're morphine
Cleverly concealing primal urges often felt but rarely seen
Rarely seen
Love I beg you
Lift me up into that privileged point of view
The world of two

Love don't leave me
Because I console myself that Hallmark cards are true
I really do

I'm gunning down romance
It never did a thing for me
But heartache and misery
Ain't nothing but a tragedy

Love don't leave me

Take these broken wings
I'm going to take these broken wings
And learn to fly
And learn to fly away
And learn to fly away....

I'm gunning down romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Written and sang by Savage Garden
Its pretty scary on what we are getting into when we talk about love. In some ways, the lyrics of the song do provide a cynical, but true perspective on love. That depends on what kind of love we are talking about. In this song, I see it as lustful love. "Cleverly concealing primal urges often felt but rarely seen.." Its love derived from sexual instinct from male and female. The song talks about begging love to lift him up into the privileged point of view: the world of two. Furthermore, this song is sung in a drawly, melancholic manner, like a drug addict not getting his dose of drugs.
I used to think this way, be addicted to lustful love ... after college, my hormones were getting the better out of me. I tried to date for all the wrong reasons. Just to get the kick out of dating, just to get the kick out of going after guys because my hormones controlled my mind. Fortunately, I failed in all. Broken, self-esteem caved in, I tried to get more out of it, by thinking about dressing suggestively and going clubbing just to get the kick out of getting attention by guys. Yet again, fortunately, in the nick of time, I did not get the chance to do so.
Feeling confused, deluded by the love drug, God came into my life. He showed me love, true, pure healthy love. His love for me. That is where the other perspective of love comes in. Through prayer, through fellowship with brothers and sisters, I learnt of agape ( unconditional love). True love is patient, kind and does not expect anything back from it. For the first time, I experienced love among my brothers, not in the lustful way, but in a sibling-like manner. This kind of love, for God and people, fills me with overwhelming peace and joy. I'm not trying to say here that non-Christians do not experience such love. But I happened to find such overwhelming emotions when I went into church. It has changed my life. It has changed my perspective.
Like the song, its true I'm gunning down romance. I figured that relationships are meaningless and wrong if they are just for fun, just for the thrill of dating. Because, in the end, like a drug, once the excitements ends, you will crave for it, so much that it aches... for no good reason. Its not healthy for the mind too. I'm 20 this year and have no boyfriends till date. I would fret over this before I knew God; but not anymore. Because God's love is greater than any other things on earth. Because I am loved by God, I do not need to seek assurance and affirmation from guys.
"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want...... Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever" Psalm 23
So now I leave my dating life into God's hands. I hope that, even as I date, it will never be lustful love. It will be love based on care and concern for each other, it will never be lust of the flesh. God shall be my advisor for life, He will show me my purpose in life, and lustful dating on my part does not fit into it.
When my dream guy proposes.....
He asks me to close my eyes... takes me by my hand, and gently leads me to a quiet place. When I open my eyes, I see myself alone standing in the middle of a beautiful wonderland themepark. The bright, dazzling lights get lit-up one by one, extending out, all the way till the whole place is filled with lights, blinking lights, coloured lights, on the trees, on the bushes, on all the buildings and amusement rides. Then, the merry-go-round starts to come alive! Cheery music resounds all around, and all the rides start getting into motion. Before I know it, the sky is litup with fireworks and a helicopter flies by with a huge banner saying: WILL U MARRY ME? Oh.. how my heart melts with joy!!! Then, he comes up to me, dressed smartly in a tuxedo, holding a huge, huge bouquet of roses (999 stalks?) goes down on his knees and proposes. Exhilarated, hyperventilating with excitement and indescribable joy, I FAINT.
WAKE UP!!!!! HELLOOOOO!!!! Am I in the movies or what?!? Seriously, what a crrrappy proposal (although I got a little carried away with my fantastic imagination) Seriously, I don't really fancy such lavish proposals. So expensive! And what a waste of electricity and flowers(flowers are sweet but not 999 stalks!) and transportation(helicopter) and money!! Ergh.... its toooo sweet for me, too.. girlish... yucks! I don't think I would want to marry such a man who splurges too much. I don't think I would even date someone so rich. We come from different backgrounds. Here is truly my dream proposal:
He asks me to close my eyes... takes me by my hand, and leads me to a quiet place. When I open my eyes, I see myself alone standing in the middle of a spacious kitchen! Wow!! What posh looking kitchen! Bright and white, equipped with the most advanced-to-date electrical appliances! A 2-door fridge, with ice dispenser, a high performance baking oven, slick-looking cooking stove, a microwave, breadmaker, wafflemaker, sandwich maker, ice blender, etc ...etcetc.. and behold! I gasp at this: a high performance electric cake mixer!!! I squeal and give my husband-to-be a tight hug. I open the cupboards in the kitchen, the contents glow onto my face. Endless, endless supply of flour, sugar, eggs, vanilla essence, baking chocolate and all the tools, whisk, beating bowl, measuring spoons, palate, sieve etc etc... Immediately I fumbled around his pockets, grab the case, dig the ring out and shove it into my finger. My face red-hot with excitement and indescribable joy, I plunge my lover a deep kiss, and say "I will!" without him asking. Haha.. and the rest is as usual, happily-ever-after, not to forget that he buys me a new baking book or new cooking appliance every valentine's day till death do us apart. Ahhhh what a perfect ending!!!! My heart beats with passion!!!!
Haha... if you think I'm weird, its fine. I AM weird. It sounds like I'm marrying my electrical appliances, not the guy. But, I love baking. Period.
Time Management...
No time... no time... no time... Thats been my pet phrase recently. I seem to have no time for anything at all. On the surface, it seems this way. But seriously.. I think its just an excuse to procrastinate.. tsk tsk.. a bad habit. I mean... if I really had no time, would I still be sitting here to blog away? As though blogging is the top most urgent thing I need to do in my life... It seems that a huge part of my time is used on not wanting to get moving on with things. I mean I know clearly I have to be somewhere doing something more important than just hanging around with my friends doing nothing. I procrastinate to move my butt. Which is quite bad...
Commencement dinner, the finale of all the graduation ceremonies went on smoothly yesterday. While guest would get absorbed at the glamour and surreal like atmosphere in the dining area (good music, beautiiful decor, freindly staff) they wouldn't know of the load of detestable work we have to do in order to get things oh-so-perfect. All the endless nights of typing names, arranging table seating, doing place cards.. etc etc.. emotions fly high when people are overworked and under-rested. By saturday, in the midst of shuffling between work, friends, church, Odac, family.. blah blah... for a moment I gave in under the pressure I built on myself. I was sooo lethargic, so sick of having to work, I wanted so badly to join my friends for lunch when I am walking to office with a hungry stomach. On reaching office, I was quite at a loss on how to help my colleagues, who are ever-so busy. And then I received a scolding for asking too much redundant questions and stoning at them.
Oh well, at that point, I felt quite useless and tired and the I-want-to-go-home and sleep feeling crept in... so I sort of swallowed my tears, and my fellow student associate Gracia noticed it. :P This sweet girl.. brought me to the toliet to lend her shoulder for me to cry on, and said a little prayer for me to feel better. Oh yea... so I kept God in mind and thanked Him for His presence in my life and all... so things went on smoothly that day.
Oh ya.. which brings me back to my point. Why do I have to push myself till this state? I think I could do with better time management.... Maybe I need to list out my top priorites in my life, and according to it, strike out things that are redundant. Obviously, its hard. I feel quite bad having to constantly reject friend's outings and phonecalls. Hur hur... I still have not completed my room re-furbishing.. my ikea stuff is not bought yet... MY BIRKENSTOCKS!!!! HAVE BEEN WANTING THEM FOR A MONTH!!!!
TIme management.. time management.. God.. pls grant me the wisdom for time-management....
The last few weeks of my holidays...
After 2 1/2 long months of school break, the holidays are finally coming to an end soon. Have been so busy with commencement ceremonies and commencement dinner this week, and for the last 2 weeks, it has been a non-stop straddling between work and Odac camp. Phew... I need some time to take a breather.
Had some fun during commencement ceremony ushering. Hated doing survey forms the most. We had to go out to people who attended the ceremony and ask them to fill in surey forms for us. Really, if I'm the guest, I'll be quite annoyed. There was also lots of pressure to maintain work standard. Gossip during workplace is also common. Ergh.. politics at work. But overall, I had fun though.
Rena... we call her cutie pie... looking very imp-ish here Eeee hee hee heee.. witchy Rena and Lionel... Or do they look like Gnomes? haha... so cute.. Me and Rena... Nice picture.. after many attempts to hide my double chin.. haha!
Just went to Pei Qi's house today, celebrated Sinwei's birthday and had a feast. I'm glad that my brothers and sisters in church are constantly keeping in touch with one another, and that we all come together closely. I am thankful for this close fellowship. :)
Somehow, this guy in BRIGHT orange always appear at the backdrop. MATTHEW!!! So act cute!!! ARGH!! Stealing the scene from Sin wei, the pretty birthday girl... Striking orange somemore.. tsk tsk tsk
Stealing a picture of Melvin.. haha Everyone else at the party.. the Fellowship of TUF! Dynergy!!!
Having experienced so much this holidays, ( working for APRU, commencement, going for camps, church camps.. etc), till today I can say my holidays has been a fruitful and good learning experience.
Outdoor Activities Club Orientation Camp
First day at camp!!!
Me and Siew Kee, President of ODAC. At Kallang beach.
Kayaks along the beach. Cool picture. Cos I'm a good photographer. hahahah. The participants of the camp had a kayaking session on the first day. Sadly, I was in the logistics cell, so I had to do some back scene work, like transport their bags to the campsite..
Hmm.. about this camp, quite a few number of people. Only 2 girl participants!!!! And around 20 other guys. So we have to call off the Secret Pal event. Sort of a matchmaking session. :(
HaHa. I call this the funeral lorry. Some idiot took the bag of blindfolds into the sea with him, and he capsized, so the blindfolds were soaked. We needed the blindfolds for games the next day, so we had to dry it soon. My co-logistics artner Nicholas suggested tying them on the sides of the lorry so that it flaps with the wind when the lorry moves, but after some time, we realised it looks like a lorry for the "dong dong chiang" kind of funeral. Very lavish, outlandish kind of funeral, loud music, accompanied by gawky looking costumes.
We took them off anyway..
From Left to right: Alvin(the lorry driver), Meiyu (logistic cell vice-head), Jasmine(programme cum councilor), Terry (Chairperson)
Hmm.. wad to say abt them,
Terry, is Mr nice guy, never saw him lost his cool before. Man of few words, but when he cracks jokes, can be quite funny..
Jasmine.. dun really know her very well, but find her very cute and quirky. Haha.
Meiyu is very dedicated to the family of ODAC. When its time for work, she is super serious. Which makes myself feel like a slacker. But, She is the darling of ODAC, small and funny and cute.
Finally, Alvin. Have a crush on him. :P He looks very decent, and he is so nice to everyone! Was moved by his sincerity and helpfulness. He stayed behind me when I was cycling(at a superslow pace), and even bought drinks for me and Nicholas! Oops.. hope he doesn't come across this blog, or i will bury myself in the ground. Anyway, a crush is just a crush, no other intentions. :) He looks cute to me la.. :P
Field cooking competition. I was picked to be one of the judges and I do not regret that! These boys CAN COOK!!!! I'm so impressed! Look below:
The halved watermelon on the right is called "tropical Punch". Firstly, it was prepared by the beach(our campsite)Secondly, the egg, slice of potato and sausage makes up a face. The egg and the potato form the eyes, and it looks like it has been punched. Therefore, Tropical Punch.
How creative.
The plate on the right side of the picture are 18 marshmallows, dipped in chocolate. They call it the 18 arafats. Interesting. And the 7 cubes surrounding the jelly, was actually dug out from simliar jellies to the one in the center. Aww.. how nice of them..
Morning breakfast. We, the logistic cell members have to make milo for everyone. One of the last to sleep, the first to get up. Just to prepare steaming milo for everyone. :) But nothing beats home-made milo in your own mug. We have to drink this milo out of mess tins! One group share a mess tin and everyone slurps from the same tin. Talk about bonding... By the way, this picture is taken at about 6.15am. Look at their faces. It reads: I want sleep.
This is the pavillion by the beach where we have our campsite. Its also sort of the committee's sleeping and storage space. I slept on that cardboard in the middle at night. Feels comfortable. Hehe.. but at the same time, I feel like some homeless person sleeping on the streets. But I guess its good to experience the unglamourous side of life, only then you would appreciate things in life you take for granted.
Bumboat to Malaysia. We left from Changi Village jetty to reach Perrangang Jetty in Johor(not too sure if I spelt it correct) Foamy foamy foams...
Um, thats Terence. I think he's involved in the
programme cell. Haha.. this picture is funny, he sleeps with his eyes open! Look closely... oops... he din know i took this picture of him. If he finds out.. uh-oh. Haha.. but everyone was very tired by then. Up to the point where we sleep anywhere when we are free to sit down and do nothing.
Interesting tree behind. And for people asking about the obvious, I DID NOT BEND THAT TREE. Taken on the cycling route. Upon reaching the jetty, we had to cycle 50km to Desaru, where our campsite was. It was tough! I managed for about 20++km, before sweat got into my eyes and I went up the lorry that follows the bikers. I'm a slacker. haha. But I cycled the last 10km, when Ruby fell from her bike, and sort of felt guilty for slacking, while she was trying her very best till she fell.
Muah-cheefied Jasmine. How to make a human Muah-Chee: First, dip human into sea.
Then, roll in sand throughly till person is covered with sand. Last, get ready to run before the human muah-chee retaliates. *Muah Chee is a snack made of sticky rice paste, rolled in chopped peanuts. Popular local snack, often sold in night markets.
Our Desaru campsite. Final destination. And the worst. Female toilet locked. Had to share male toilet. Males and females took turns to use it to shower. The sight of urinals beside the wash basin disgusts me. In addition, the urinals were not flushed, and reeked an unbelievable ammonia "scent" Think it will make a good insect repellant. Anyone who goes near it will die of suffocation. Which brings me to the next point. I was there to feed mosquitoes. At night there were so, so many of them. Hovers around my legs, buzzed into my ears... So irritating. I have 33 bites on my legs and counting..
This is how I look like sunburnt, tired and dehydrated from cycling. I applied sunblock on my face, but left out my eye area. Thats why its so red. Some people say I look like a pervert in this photo. Really? I think I look cute... hahaha
Finally!!! On our way back to Singapore! Weisan beside me. My Log partner. Looks like a friend of mine. Tall, lanky but a little reserved too. but alright. Could get along with each other.
End of picture show!!! Overall camp rating: 4/5!!!! Tiring but I experienced so much! Came back with a bronzed tan and a cool camp shirt! Seriously, it is this kind of trips that I have stronger memories that of trips where I am pampered. Hehe.... guess I'm werid...
Sparkling chandeliers, cute-looking Gurkas and rich old Bill Gates
All found in the istana. :) Singapore's palace. Ooh... I still can't believe I had such an eventful 3 days working for the Asean Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Conference!!! Visited the Istana, met all the big shots, even had my go at waitressing!
Was at the Istana to usher for the Welcome dinner for these delegates. The Istana seriously takes up a lot of land for its private golf course... oh well, but it was beautiful, and many local fauna can be found in there. And the banquet hall is so grand lotsa antiques... wow the sparkling chandeliers, they really sparkle!!!! Took a few pics of them, will post it asap.
And up the flight of stairs a floor above the dinner hall, there was this mysterious looking Gurka(Nepalese guard) guarding some unknown meeting room upstairs. This Gurka constantly looked down the stairs at the commotion we were having(he was probably bored): ushering people to the dinner hall, and just looking at us loitering around the reception area. He kept a straight face all the time, and he sort of wore a bush hat tilted to the side, with navy blue police uniform. Perhaps it was the hat and the solemn gaze as he lowered his chin to look down at us, it made us, especially me, to get more intrigued by him. Furthermore, the area he was standing was not well lit, together with the bush hat, it casted a shadowy look on his face. INTRIGUING!!!! And not to forget he had a cute, broad face, looks young of course! Ahh!! but there was a moment that he actually smiled! We were acting like some idiots snapping pictures in the Istana, think he was quite amused by it, and he smiled!!! ooh... And all the girls were giggling and throwing shy glances up the stairs at him(Or was it just me?). Hohoho... Thats the way to attract a girl's attention man, act mysterious and cool, and smile occasionally. Think we have greatly boosted his well-being that day :)
Apart from that suave guard from the land of the Himalayas, beneath that mysterious meeting room I mentioned had 2 very famous people in it. We were all down at the reception area snapping pictures, talking to one another, when suddenly, some policemen shoved us to the room beside the flight of stairs and kept us behind glass doors. ThenI heard 'Bill Gates is walking down!' So all of us flocked to the glass door to get a million dollar glance at him. Felt like we were some exhibits behind some glass panel. Then Bill Gates walked down the stairs. Everyone started straining their necks to catch a glance. Bill Gates seem appaled at the bunch of excited looking 'exhibits' whose faces were all pressed flat on the glass door just to peer at him. Haha.
Guess he was not aware of the event going on below where he was. Few moments after he left, LKY walked down the stairs too. This time, I did not see him, as I was busy taking vain pictures of myself and Diana holding wine glasses sitting on a exquiste couch, looking very classy. But of course, the wine glasses were not ours, it was leftover wine placed on the coffeetable drank by our guests before dinner as reception. What an eventful first day for my job. Will elaborate on the 2nd and 3rd day another time, sigh, camp tomorrow. Made jelly for everyone at the camp.
